Bomber

Listed in Dive Sussex as a B17

As a kid digging holes in the sand on Newhaven's West beach, myself and a friend dug down and came across the wheel+tyre, landing gear of an aircraft. Someone else I know dragged a large aircraft tyre with the traditional cross hatch design, from the sea, close to where this wreck lays. Who knows if it came from this aircraft. I can't find any reports of a crashed B17 though!?

I was never sure if the story in Dive Sussex was a tall tale or not, about the diver being killed by a falling wing.

I did eventually find some proof and have since spoke to a couple of people who remember it happening. Theodores body was recovered.

There are two marks on Wrecksite and I'm not sure which one is correct. We haven't found any signs on the sounder at either mark. Very close to shore so possibly been buried.
