Found at the Buckle, Seaford Bay. Bronze cannons one dated 1534 the other is difficult to read but 153!?. In my opinion they are from a French ship that threw them overboard for a quick get away when Lord Pelham came down and chased them away at the Battle of the Buckle
Other iron cannon in the area are probably from the Harlequin convoy which wrecked 1809. Harlequin was carrying 18 guns although the wreck furthest West was the February. Most, if not all, the ships would have been carrying signal cannon at least.
In the mid 90s it was said there was the occasional piece of wood to be seen and even now there is musket shot.
Wessex archaeology have surveyed the site and found nothing other than the iron cannon. After extensive research no other ship was found to have wrecked in the area that fits the time frame for the bronze cannon.
